INDIANAPOLIS – For two seasons, it was the Arizona Cardinals’ turn to rule the NFC West. That changed last year, when the Seahawks recaptured the division and the Cardinals slumped to 5-11.

But Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said today that he sees the division being wide open entering the 2011 season.

“It looks like there are a lot of teams that are improving in our division,” Whisenhunt said during a break at the NFL scouting combine. “Obviously, coach (Steve) Sagnuolo did a great job in St. Louis. Coach (Pete) Carroll did a good job in Seattle. San Francisco is a little bit like us, in the standpoint that they’ve had some changes.

“So I think that it’s going to be anybody’s division – whoever obviously can play the best. So that’s exciting for us, because if we can get some things straightened out we have a good chance to win it again, which is something that’s obviously our goal.”

The Seahawks know what the Cardinals are going through. After winning the division for four consecutive seasons (2004-07), the Seahawks went 4-12 and 5-11 before winning the division with a 7-9 record in 2011. The Cardinals were 9-7 in 2008, the season they advanced to the Super Bowl; and 10-6 in 2009.
