A recap of the day’s activities at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Oct. 18:
FOCUS ON
Tarvaris Jackson. His teammates marveled at Jackson’s toughness as the quarterback somehow managed to get up and get back to the huddle after some of the 14 sacks and 20 hits he absorbed in the first 2½ games.
Now, it’s Jackson’s rapid recovery prowess that’s on display.
Knocked out of the Seahawks’ pre-bye week upset of the New York Giants in the third quarter with a strained pectoral in his throwing shoulder, Jackson was simulating a throwing motion during the bye-week practice last Wednesday and he threw some passes on the side during the team’s “bonus” practice on Monday.
Is it possible that Jackson could play in Sunday’s game against the Browns in Cleveland?
“Yeah, I’m pretty wide open to possibilities,” coach Pete Carroll said. “Yeah, I’d say, ‘yes,’ to that.”
They’re still preparing as if backup Charlie Whitehurst will start, but with that never-say-never option that is the tough and resilient Jackson.
“We’ll just take it one day at a time and see how he tolerates,” Carroll said. “He’s way ahead of any schedule that anybody would have thought of that this point and we’ll just see where that takes us.
“We don’t know. It’s just one day at a time and how he tolerates the work. This week is going to go by very quickly here all of a sudden once we get to Wednesday. So we’ll just see what happens. He has a chance and we’ll just take it day to day.”

A comment from defensive backs coach Kris Richard that Marcus Trufant is “probably the toughest corner that I’ve been around” prompted a question: Which corners in Seahawks history have ranked among the Top 5 in tackles the most times?
Not surprisingly, Trufant not only is the runaway winner; he is the only corner to ever lead the team in tackles (93 in 2004). Dave Brown had a team-high 111 in 1976, but he played free safety in the team’s inaugural season.

The players return from their off day on Tuesday to begin preparing for Sunday’s game with an afternoon practice on Wednesday. The week also moves into overdrive, because the team will fly to Cleveland after practice on Friday.
