August 17, 2011-----The Seahawks have signed veteran free-agent safety Atari Bigby.
Bigby has six seasons of experience, all with the Packers, but only played in four games last season. He missed most of last year while recovering from ankle surgery.
He will add experience and depth to a very young Seattle safety and secondary core.
The team has also signed undrafted free-agent rookie wide receiver Brandon Jones out of Arizona State.
-Seahawks GM John Schneider has apologized to the Minnesota Vikings front office staff, for comments he made about the team's handling of Tarvaris Jackson. The Seahawks will play the Vikings this Saturday at Century Link Field at 7 p.m.
Schneider said, via NFL.com "He’s 28 years old, and quite frankly was (expletive) on for four years."
Schneider now explains, "What I was trying to say was that I understand what Tarvaris had been through and being in Green Bay and seeing what Aaron (Rodgers) went through, to a lesser degree with Brett. ... And early on playing, you know, he was pulled right away ... So yeah, it's definitely a comment I'd like to have back -- that's one to put in your back pocket."
He added, "Young quarterbacks are going to struggle, and you have to have a certain amount of confidence in them."
And on Charlie Whitehurst, who currently behind Jackson and in a somewhat similar position to what Jackson experienced in Minnesota, Schneider said, "Quite frankly, Charlie has really stepped up in this camp. He's had a very nice camp; he's stepped forward with his leadership."
In summary, everything about Jackson is based on a single premise: Minnesota didn't give him enough time or opportunity to develop into a successful NFL QB, but if given the confidence and opportunity he can be.
We will find out if that is true very soon. And if Jackson struggles early?
Some believe that ultimately Jackson has the entire season to prove himself or Plan B, the NFL draft will provide his replacement.
