No disrespect to Tarvaris Jackson, but Seattle doesn't need to do much more than kick the tires on the former Minnesota Vikings quarterback.

Word is that because new Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell was the cordinator for the Vikings with Jackson, Seattle is doing their due dilligence on Jackson-which shouldn't be hard.

Game video alone will show he's not the answer for the Seahawks. Statistically in 3 games last season he had a QB rating of 63.9 with four interceptions and three touchdowns. Logically you would think Charlie Whitehurst would get a chance before Jackson, but they could be competing qb's in training camp if you believe the rumors.

The original speculation which is producing Jackson or Carson Palmer like scenarios, is that Seattle wants to trade for Kevin Kolb and that subsequently Matt Hasselbeck is getting strong interest from and will end up in Tennessee.

I would think that Seahawks Nation would not be too disappointed if Kolb ended up as the QB even if they had to give up two high picks. It's just a matter of if Kolb is going to be the guy of the future or is there is a player which can ultimately be a franchise player yet to be drafted.

Len Pasquarelli of The Sports Xchange/CBSSports.com believes the Seahawks would be foolish to give up what the Eagles are going to be asking for Kolb.

He writes, "Given his youth and promise, Kolb might well be worth a first-round choice when the lockout ends and the trade moratorium is lifted. But projecting a quarterback with such a limited body of work is tricky business. And if history is an indication, the Seahawks, of any other team interested, probably can't be sure the price is right.

Brandon Mebane

Adam Kaplan of Fox Sports ranks the Seahawks defensive tackle as the 4th best available defensive free-agent in the NFL.

The Seahawks will more than likely attempt to and be able to re-sign Mebane as Kaplan points out but they could get competition from St. Louis among other teams.

Last season Mebane had 31 tackles in the regular season and nine tackles in the postseason including six against the Bears.

Lockout Update

The players and owners continue to meet in New York this week hashing out the final details on what is believed to be an agreement. The tentative deadline is now July 15th to save the "preseason", though the NFL can do wonders if it really wants. A lot of people are now saying the lockout may end next week sometime.

It really sounds as if an agreement has been reached but the two sides apparently want to use every last day they can before declaring it official.

Even the Pro Football Hall of Fame which opens the preseason annually on the Sunday after the Hall of Fame induction ceremony is going ahead with plans to host a game between the St. Louis Rams and the Chicago Bears Aug. 7th, according to the Hall's president Steve Perry.
