Hope abounds: The Seahawks have a top 10 defense.

Two games, two losses, is the season lost?

Rationally speaking, no it’s not.

Below is a compilation of where the Seahawks rank statistically in the NFL. What you can derive from the stats below is that the Seahawks have one of the best defenses in the NFL and possibly the best in the NFC West, where they will meet five more opponents. If early indications of the competition in the NFC West turn out to be true with 14 games remaining on the schedule the Seahawks could very well could be a playoff team-though some don't think that can happen as long as Tarvaris Jackson is the QB but enough has been said and written about Jackson. The defense is actually something to be excited about.

The Seahawks have allowed just 315.0 yards in two games which is 10th best in the NFL. A unit that has been on the field way too much (34:56 10th worst), is ranked 12th in passing yards allowed and 15th in rushing yards allowed. They could very well be in the Top 10 in several categories if the offense could stay on the field longer.

The ‘Hawks defense was worn out against Ben Roethlisberger over the course of the game as the Steelers dominated time of possession 38:44 to 21:16 but showed a lot by sacking Big Ben twice. The Seahawks secondary can play better, but it's not a matter of talent at that position as some might argue is the case either on the offensive line or at the QB position.

On offense the inability to rush the ball is apparent just as much as the passing game has struggled. The blame is obviously on an offensive line with their hands full, but they can only go up from here. The Seahawks are ranked dead last in rushing yards.
