They came. They saw. They were gobsmacked.
Manchester United, the 19-time English Premier League champions, invaded Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Friday and came away duly impressed with the Seahawks’ practice facility and headquarters.
“The Seattle Seahawks training ground takes your breath away, it’s that good,” defender Rio Ferdinand tweeted after he and his teammates practiced on the outdoor fields in the morning before moving to weight room for an afternoon conditioning session.
Striker Michael Owen tweeted, “And I thought the facilities in the Premier League were good! Seattle Seahawks training ground, changing rooms!”
United will remain in Seattle all weekend, as it prepares for Wednesday’s friendly against Sounders FC at Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.
Last Wednesday, striker Wayne Rooney set the stage by tweeting, “Just taking off to go to Seattle. Looking forward to getting there. Gonna be a tough game against the Sounders.”
United is on a five-match tour of the United States. It opened with a 4-1 win over the New England Revolution on Wednesday. After the match against Sounders FC, United faces the Chicago Fire (July 23), MLS All-Stars (July 27 in New Jersey) and Barcelona (July 30 in Washington, D.C.).
