Good morning. Here’s what’s “out there” about the Seahawks for today, June 24:
Scouts Inc.’s Matt Williamson breaks down the Seahawks’ receivers in this item from ESPN.com. Of leading receiver Mike Williams, Williamson says: “You have to give Pete Carroll a lot of credit for taking a chance on Williams, and you have to give Williams a lot of credit for taking full advantage of that opportunity. Williams is the Seahawks’ best weapon. He isn’t super-fast or explosive, but he builds up speed. He uses his huge frame to compete well for the football with his excellent body control, long arms and huge hands.”
Former Seahawks scout and NFL receiver Bucky Brooks looks at second-year players who should emerge in 2011 for this piece on NFL.com. Two Seahawks are included. Brooks on left tackle Russell Okung: “Okung’s rookie year was hampered by an early season high-ankle sprain and his first-season performance suffered as a result. He had problems staying in front of elite rushers, and some worry about how he fits within the Seahawks’ scheme. However, other elite blockers have suffered through their fair share of growing pains before emerging as dominant fixtures at their position, and Okung could experience a similar fate.” Brooks on wide receiver Golden Tate: “Pete Carroll has been fascinated by Tate’s big-play ability, but didn’t fully tap into it a year ago. However, he has already voiced plans to make the former Notre Dame star a bigger part of the offense. While some aspects of his game remain raw and unrefined, he flashed big-time ability with the ball in his hands. As a punt returner or sub-package receiver, Tate is being counted on to deliver impact plays in his second season.”
Dan Arkush at ProFootballWeekly.com offers his Top 40 players in the NFC West. The Seahawks have 12 players on the list, but the highest is Leon Washington at No. 11. Says Arkush: “Bouncing back from a gruesome leg injury in 2009, the electrifying Washington became the first player in league history to return three kickoffs for scores in two different seasons.” Also on the list: No. 13, Earl Thomas; No. 17 Russell Okung; No. 21, David Hawthorne; No. 23, Chris Clemons; No. 25, Brandon Mebane; No. 27, Mike Williams; No. 29, Marshawn Lynch; No. 30, Matt Hasselbeck; No. 32, Red Bryant; No. 37, Lofa Tatupu; and No. 40, Raheem Brock.

Says Breer: “According to league sources, Thursday marked the first time since the parties began meeting in clandestine sessions May 31 that the rookie pay system was broached, and some bumps were expected. But it was the first time (Roger) Goodell and (DeMaurice) Smith appeared together to deliver a statement since the lockout began 100 days ago.”
